Storage, Squared

The drawers and shelf on the side of this wall-hung sink offer convenient access to storage for those who may be standing [or sitting—it is a bathroom, after all] somewhere other than in front of the unit. Clever! boffi.com

Sinking In

Designed by Dario Gaudio and Vittorio Venezia, the Controstampo pedestal sink is at once raw and refined. There's something about the indeterminate industrial look of the piece that I find quite appealing. A matching tub is also available. falper.it

Sink as Sculpture

The prolific Patricia Urquiola designed the Wave basin as part of a larger group of products, the Sonar Collection. Made of a proprietary, wafer-thin ceramic that allows crisp curves and edges to be fabricated, the pedestal sink brings a light yet assertive form to the bath. laufen.com

Odd Couplings

The smooth curve of the faucet and angles of the pedestal basin; the modern elements in the traditional setting. Mixing things up can be liberating. The Maccione II sink sets the tone for this bath. theinteriorgallery.com

Pretty, Dirty Laundry

The knowingly-named Anfibio sink and under-basin storage unit are sufficiently stylish to be installed in a bathroom; the functional aspects of their design are up to the rigors of a laundry room. Matteo Ragni's creation is a multi-functional fixture that doesn't tip its aesthetic hand. azzurraceramica.com

Fishing for Compliments

An exuberant goldfish decorates the wall of this bucket-like basin. Equally sweet for a kids' bath or a summer home, the design provides a reminder of the delicate environmental [im]balance we increasingly face—particularly in light of today's calving of the Larson C ice shelf. scarabeoceramica.com

At Hand

This in-sink holder keeps cloths handy without draping drippy towels over the faucet. Designed by Miika Mansikkamaa, it's ingeniously easy to install: an undercounter magnet anchors the holder to the inside of any stainless steel basin. Have a round sink? No worries—there's a curved model available, too. magisso.com

All in One

Designers Rui Pereira and Ryosuke Fukusada teamed up to create 'Small Steps', a concise assemblage meant to ease the fog of morning ablutions. The sculptural marble composition contains a sink, medicine cabinet, seating, and a WC. Accessories play a prime role: hot washcloths nestle in a metal cradle, a coffee mug is strategically positioned, and a freestanding tissue holder can be moved for convenient access. cottoanotherperspective.com

A Squishy Sink

Attention, style-conscious but butter-fingered brethren: the Bounce Cord lav is made of impact-forgiving polyurethane. This means no more bruised hips or broken glasses. Offered in a variety of colors and configurations, the spongy sink would be a cushy complement to this soft shower tray. everlifedesign.it

Seeing Double

Such a simple and smart idea: offsetting the sinks from the mirrors yields a near full-length looking glass, a feature extremely handy in the bath. The Origin collection of fixtures and furniture, with its rounded lines, lends itself well to this design. inbani.com

Planes Talk

There's another photo of this bathroom that shows its context: in it, a leaded glass transom over the door definitively pegs it as a contemporary remodel of a much-older home. While that view was telling, I think this shot really reveals the proficiency of the designer. Optically and physically composing mirrors and walls and a too-fab flat sink into a literal reflection on the space is a tour de force work of vision and precision. liebkeprojects.com.au

Bowled Over

The pudgy Bulbo sink is eminently lovable. Sitting on a trio of squat legs, the concrete basin straddles the line between folk art and fine sculpture. I think it would work best with a palette of natural finishes; this plaster counter has both the tactility and heft that the sink needs. urbietorbi.gr

Keeping One's Cool

As spring takes its sweet time in arriving, this powder room reminds me of just how great an impact nature can have on design. Even a mere threesome of flowers [multiplied to six by the mirror] gives life to an otherwise icy space that's clad in elaborately carved solid surfacing. dessinsllc.com

Subtle + Strong

The integral backsplash of the JP sink is topped by a small shelf that conceals the water outlet as well as providing a modest storage area. The design, by Monica Freitas Geronimi, is available in basalt and solid surfacing material, in addition to the Carrara marble model shown here. mg12.it

A Sliver of a Sink

The phonetically fun ISH trade show, now underway in Frankfurt, is the biggest stage for international plumbing products. Making its debut this week is this minimalist beauty. Fabricated from a single sheet of stainless steel, the Lavandino sink hangs from a frame concealed in the wall—an installation that facilitates its floating appearance and thin profile. The fixture was designed by Francesca Braga Rosa and Ivano Vianello. antoniolupi.it

Deep Thoughts—or Not

Arik Levy's design for the Bowl sink has got me thinking. With its shallow, flat basin, it looks more like it should be floating on water than containing it. It's always good when design shakes up one's perspective on form and function. inbani.com

Japan, Via Milan

Designer Stefano Cavazzana cites the bento box as inspiration for his new Oblon bathroom fixtures. Similar to the bento's functional form, the interchangeable basin, its rim, and accompanying tray/lid can be stacked in different color combinations. The collection premieres at iSalone this week. novello.it

Material Switch-Up

Mixing marble and smoky glass, the Bespoke vanity makes a suave entrance at iSalone this week. While combining opacity and transparency in a single unit has been done before, the application protocol has been upended by designer Carlo Colombo; usually it's the sink that's glass, not the cabinet. antoniolupi.it

Rock Solid

The Belgian sensibility revolves around beauty and strength. Designed by architects in Antwerp, this blue stone basin embodies both. Vrede. themenos.be

Disruptive Design

Such an unexpected, appealing mix of styles—industrial meets chinoiserie. Here, it's gold that ties the two aesthetics together. I like the look. It recalls a time when eclecticism reigned, but this time around, the level of quality isn't so haphazard as before. londonbasincompany.com
